Couple therapy explores any areas of conflict that exist between a couple and the difficulties that can arise between the two people. It can be beneficial to couples of all ages and at whatever stage of life. The therapy aims to encourage clear communication which in turn can help build an intimate connection between the couple, and draws on the qualities currently available to nurture and develop the couple relationship.
Therapeutic work between a couple involves identifying areas of conflict, which may find expression through repeated arguments, sexual difficulties, withdrawal of affection or unrealistic expectations of one an other. Couple therapy requires that both partners desire a change in their way of relating, and have confidence that their therapist can assist with their attempts to make that change.
